BOTOX® is an injectable form of onobotulinumtoxinA used to temporarily prevent a muscle from moving. BOTOX® is used both for cosmetic and therapeutic (functional) purposes. As a cosmetic treatment, it primarily reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. There are many FDA approved therapeutic uses, including treatment for blepharospasm.
Blepharospasm is the involuntary twitching, or closure, of the eyelids.
The longevity of BOTOX® varies slightly from person to person. In general, the effects of BOTOX® last between 3-6 months. It is not uncommon for patients to experience a shorter duration of results after the first treatment, followed by a longer duration following subsequent treatments.
Most commercial and government insurance plans cover the cost of BOTOX® treatment. There is an additional savings program available to help cover any out of pocket costs, including a patient's deductible. McConnell Eye can assist in making sure that your BOTOX® costs are approved by your insurance company, and that any out of pocket costs related to your and BOTOX® treatment are covered.
